In developing countries, the government has to be accountable in guaranteeing equal opportunities to all citizens. Indeed, it has a social responsibility to uplift the life of poor and marginalised people in a sustainable manner, and will contribute meaningfully to social development. It is through policy development, and subsequent advocacy that real social change occurs, by in part, holding government accountable for their actions. Intern in India with if i could… and be a part of this social change!
Policy work contributes significantly towards improving the lives of India’s most neglected populations, by means of the actions of everyday people.
The if i could… programme has numerous, dynamic and dedicated host organisations in New Delhi that focus on a range of developmental issues facing India as a country. In this way, if i could… offers advocacy internships in the fields of gender diversity and women’s rights, children’s rights, HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness, as well as sexual and reproductive health and rights.
“By undertaking an advocacy-related internship, you have a unique opportunity to gain some practical work experience within the policy development realm and to develop your skills in exciting, dynamic and rapidly growing fields within the development sector in India,” says Lindy Briginshaw, Director of the if i could… programme. “We look to match the skills of our interns and needs of our host organisations in an attempt to further the intern’s career goals while contributing to the advocacy goals of the organisation. The intern has a real opportunity to contribute meaningfully to social change and to gain an understanding of the social, economic and political landscape.”
